Who are you?

I've seen so many systems get built, then die the death of lack of publicity.  I don't want that to happen to this site.  So, may I share some friendly advice?

  1. You do not identify who's behind this site, anywhere I can see.  You need to put some names and faces out there.  Otherwise, you risk having people not trust you.
  2. Are there any Wycliffe people associated with this site?
  3. You should use Google to find other sites that are similar to yours, then link to them.  And get them to link to you.  Of particular interest, you might want to establish connections with these people:
    1. opensourcemission.com
    2. opensourcemissions.wordpress.com
    3. door43.org

Sincerely,

John Samuel Anderson

Identity

Well, thanks for the comments. My name is Doug Higby, the webmaster for this site. I have put this site together with the help of some friends because of the difficulty in finding information about linguistic and translation tools that are available for minority languages. I am member of SIL International, a non-profit organization that engages in languages around the world to provide linguistic foundations as a basis for literacy and translation work. However, this site is not affiliated with SIL. Its purpose is to be a community of practice for anyone doing linguistic and translation work in minority languages.

The links that you have given are specific to Christian mission work, and although linguistic research can be motivated for such ends, lingtransoft.info aims to foster collaboration between linguists and translators in minority languages, irrespective of their religious views. Any research that is done on these languages is of benefit to the language community itself, whom we desire to serve to the utmost.

I will revise the about page and try to make it easier to find information about the site in an effort to be more transparent.

Sincerely,

Doug Higby
