Anki + Flash Addons
In an attempt to provide a good language learning tool, the Language Learning department of SIL has been looking at Anki and various Addons to provide a good tool for learners:
Anki is a popular flashcard program. Their website says:
Anki is a program which makes remembering things easy. Because it's a lot more efficient than traditional study methods, you can either greatly decrease your time spent studying, or greatly increase the amount you learn.
Anyone who needs to remember things in their daily life can benefit from Anki. Since it is content-agnostic and supports images, audio, videos and scientific markup (via LaTeX), the possibilities are endless.
These Addons provide a way to import language data from FieldWorks Language Explorer and to make flashcards that can be used in a stack or arranged as a grid (think--multiple choice).
FlashGrab is an addon that imports LIFT XML data into Anki.
FlashGrid is an addon that provides the ability to drill by selecting from a grid (similar to the grids used in Rosetta Stone or Vocabulary Manager). It displays the Front of the card on the left, and a grid of card Backs on the right. Clicking on the correct card in the grid is equivalent to clicking on Show Answer in Anki.
FlashFork is an add-on for the popular Anki flashcard program that adds a feature to the Tools menu for copying the currently-selected deck of notes/flashcards. It was originally packaged together with another add-on, FlashGrid.
