Communicate well in the Language of Wider Communication (LWC)
Having an adequate knowledge of languages in the multilingual contexts we work in is essential. Without sufficient mastery of the Language of Wider Communication, effective communication becomes a challenge. It can have a negative impact on our work and the way it is perceived by others.
Is able to communicate well in the language(s) used in their context.
Growth Activities
The following activities have been identified to achieve comptency in Language Use in levels from Learner to Expert.
Identify 2-3 significant gaps in your oral use of the LWC. Follow a plan to improve on them. Discuss with mentor.
Take notes in meetings in the LWC. Ask your mentor for feedback. Identify 2 areas of growth in written use of LWC.
Communicate effectively in the LWC in a variety of contexts. Identify 2 areas of growth and a plan to improve on them.
Prepare reports and presentations in the LWC. Ask for feedback from 2 people as to what to improve on.
Communicate appropriately in the LWC in training situations. Ask for feedback from students/mentees as to how to improve your language skills in the LWC. Discuss with mentor.
Communicate effectively in a variety of work related sitations including teaching and negotiating in the LWC.
Write training materials in the LWC.
Perform research relevant to your domain in the LWC.
