Rationale: 

For many Language Technologists, the input, verification, management and publishing of translated data will be a core activity. This is the first competency to be studied.

Is able to train others in the effective use of current Translation tools

The following activities have been identified to achieve comptency in Translation Tools in levels from Learner to Expert.

Has Knowledge: 

Get to know a translation team and their daily activities.

Demonstrates basic knowledge of translation tools

Can identify common markup notation for Scripture data based on the current standards.

Identify Mobile Translation Tools that are used in your context.

Identify the common methods of digital collaboration in Scripture translation projects. Learn about Project Plans in use in your context.

Acquire and explare translation resource package (i.e. Translator's Workplace Logos or BdT)

With Assistance: 

Can use translation tools and troubleshoot issues that arise. Can produce common markup for Scripture data based on the current standards. Learn to use mobile translation tools that may be useful in your context. Use the common methods of digital collaboration in Scripture translation projects.

Optimally configure translation resource packages for exegesis

Independent: 

Assist in training others on the use of translation tools.

Convert and import data from other formats (plain text, Word document, etc) into translation software.

Assist in training others on the use of mobile translation tools.

Advise users in best-practices for collaboration and data safety (within the team and remotely), such as the use of Send/Receive. Assist users to configure plans and tasks in a way that helps them.

Advise users to open and navigate to specific translation resources.

Proficient: 

Prepare and lead a translation tools training event.

Assist in training others on the use of mobile translation tools

Train individuals to use mobile Translation Tools for appropriate tasks.

Train users in best-practices for collaboration and data safety (within the team and remotely), such as the use of Send/Receive, Paratext Live, and ScriptureForge

Train users to use customization, search and filters to target specific translation resources.

Expert: 

Prepare and teach translation tools at an LT Consultant training event.

Train others to convert and import Scripture data

Train groups or consultants to use mobile translation tools for appropriate tasks.

Train consultants to do remote checking sessions using all available technologies.
