Art Of Reading

Your rating: None Average: 3.2 (5 votes)

Paraphrased from the website:

Contains over 10,000 images collected from SIL and national artists around the world. These black and white line drawings are suitable for use in a wide variety of literacy materials, newsletters, bulletin board displays, and other cultural awareness materials. They are indexed by country, author, keywords, and other categories.

Images come from Brazil, Cambodia, Cameroon, Canada, Colombia, D.R. of Congo, India, Indonesia, East Africa, Mexico, Nigeria, Papua New Guinea, Peru, Philippines, Senegal, Sudan, Thailand, USA.

The CD is US$20 from www.ethnologue.com. The images themselves were royalty free (I've requested a copy of the actual license for this volume, will update this when I get it).

AOR comes with commercial software for browsing/searching the collection, and this only works on Windows and Mac.  However, the images themselves work on any platform, so long as you have a way of finding images in such a big collection.  WeSay on Linux, for example, uses a word's definition to display relevant images from the collection, which you click on to insert into the dictionary entry.
