Learning to read takes books. Learning to read well, and developing a love of reading, takes lots of books. Books at all different skill levels. But how are low-literacy language communities ever to get all those books in their language? They can do it with Bloom.
Bloom uses collections of "shell books" that come with multiple source languages. Read the ones you understand, type in a translation in your language, and you're done!
LangTran is a software distribution system that provides a robust automated system for language workers to access the latest installers for many programs & associated resources. Those resources will be on their computer or USB drive when they go to an area with poor, expensive or unreliable internet coverage, or none at all.
XeTeX based macro package for typesetting USFM formatted (Paratext output) scripture files
Typesetting in minutes, not months
PTXprint is a relatively new tool (still in active development) to help teams easily produce adequate quality printed output from Paratext for the purpose of trial publications. It aims to hide all the complexity of XeTeX from the user, and presents an extensive range of options through a simple click-to-enable user-interface....
Toolbox is a data management and analysis tool for field linguists. It is primarily aimed at editing lexical data, and for parsing and interlinearizing text, but it can be used to manage virtually any kind of data.
If you have experience with the Field Linguist's Shoebox, you can think of Toolbox as an enhanced version of Shoebox with a new name. It is fully compatible with Shoebox. You can install Toolbox and use it just as you used Shoebox, with virtually no difference. Because Toolbox is an enhanced version of Shoebox, it is sometimes referred to as Shoebox/Toolbox.
Dekereke is a phonology search and data management tool.
Glossinator provides a quick and easy way to look at the lexemes and the glosses that are entered in the Paratext interlinearizer. It functions as a companion to Paratext.
SUMMARY: A morphological parser for linguistic exploration
DETAILS: When given the necessary information about the morphology of a language, AMPLE will analyze each word in a text and break it into morphemes. AMPLE is oriented to the "item and arrangement" approach to the description of morphological phenomena. It can handle nonconcatenative phenomena only indirectly. AMPLE works together with STAMP (OPAC 15) for Computer-Assisted Related Language Adaptation (CARLA). It can also be used in conjunction with ITF (OPAC 17) for publishing glossed texts in interlinear form.
SUMMARY: Interlinear Text Formatter
DETAILS: ITF (Interlinear Text Formatter) is a set of TeX macros for typesetting interlinear texts. These macros can format an arbitrary number of aligning annotations with up to two freeform annotations. Programs are provided with the ITF package for converting output from IT or AMPLE into the format required by ITF. The ITF TeX macros can be used with either TeX 2.9 or TeX 3. A LaTeX style is provided as well as the plain TeX formatting definitions.
SUMMARY: Morphological transfer and synthesis for adapting text to a related language
DETAILS: STAMP works with AMPLE (OPAC 12) to adapt text from one language to another (closely) related language, a process known as "Computer-Assisted Related Language Adaptation" (CARLA). STAMP provides morphological transfer and synthesis for words analyzed by AMPLE. The result is, at best, a rough draft suitable for editing by a competent speaker of the target language.
