Google Input Tools

This utility is available either as a download for Windows (that integrates languages into the Windows language bar), or as a plugin for the Chrome browser. Permits typing in a variety of scripts, both Roman and non-Roman, and includes a visual keyboard and a predictive text toolbar, where it suggests words based on keys you have pressed. By my count, it looks like over 70 languages are supported, including Korean, Japanese, Chinese (simplified and traditional), Hindi, Punjabi, Malayalam, Arabic, Persia and others (this is not a complete list of all the non-Roman scripts).

Audacity

An audio editor that runs on all major platforms. It is oriented more toward music than phonetics and has only limited analysis tools. However, it can do noise reduction and has some useful editing tools, including the ability to modify individual samples and to change the amplitude envelope.

SILKin

SILKin is software designed to facilitate collection, analysis, and reporting of kinship terminologies. The program graphically displays genealogical structures and intelligently supports development of term definitions.

Webonary

Webonary gives language groups the ability to put their bilingual or multilingual dictionaries on the web with a minimum of technical help. Each dictionary is built around a search bar, which looks for a word throughout the dictionary, and returns the most relevant results to the top of the list.

SILAS (Smart Interactive Layout Assistant for Scripture)

A Microsoft Word template to provide smarter and safer layout of RTF files exported from Paratext, Adapt It or Fieldworks Translation Editor.

SynPhony Community Edition

Synphony Community Edition is public domain software that assists in sequencing literacy training using intelligent analysis of wordlists in any language. SynPhony CE provides a user-friendly interface to help literacy teachers find teachable words to present to learners based on the letters that students already know.

ELAN

ELAN is a professional tool for the creation of complex annotations(e.g. sentence, word or gloss,  comment, or translation) on video and audio resources.

SheetSwiper

Sheet Swiper converts spreadsheets containing linguistic data to Standard Format (for use with Linguist's Toolbox, Phonology Assistant, Lexique Pro, etc.). The rules for how to do the conversion come from the first rows of the spreadsheet itself, so subsequent, repeated conversions are easy for non-computer savvy users to do. Given this input from Excel: The "review" tab shows this:

Solid

A program for checking and cleaning up a Toolbox lexicon. You can use SOLID to help prepare it for importing into FieldWorks or WeSay, or just verify the consistency of your data.

Bantu Literacy Tool

An outdated program. It has now been replaced by Primer Pro. http://lingtransoft.info/apps/primerpro   The BLT makes primer-making simple. It produces a tentative teaching order for graphemes, by conducting two kinds of frequency counts for each grapheme (letter, digraph or consonant cluster to be taught). It makes story-writing with a controlled vocabulary (using only letters which have been taught in the texts which accompany each lesson) a much more pleasant, creative experience than before. The BLT software does a lot of tedious work...
