Software

  • PC-PATR

A unification-based syntactic parser available individually, but more commonly distributed as part of PC-PARSE.

For more information, use this contact.

  • WeSay

WeSay helps non-linguists build a dictionary in their own language. It has various ways to help native speakers to think of words in their language and enter some basic data about them. The program is customizable and task-oriented, giving the advisor the ability to turn on/off tasks as needed and as the user receives training for those tasks. WeSay uses a standard xml format, so data can be exchanged with linguist-oriented tools like FieldWorks. Team members can collaborate via USB flash drive, email, and via network connections.

  • Dekereke

Dekereke is a phonology software tool.

  • IPA Help

This program is designed to help the user learn to recognize, transcribe, and produce the sounds of the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA).

  • CARLA Studio

CARLAStudio is a program that you use both to model languages and then to put the model to work parsing texts and adapting texts to another language.

  • Dictionary App Builder

Builds a customized app from dictionary data for Android tablets and smartphones. You can take a lexicon or dictionary from FLEx or WESay or Lexique Pro, and build it into an app. The app contains all the data, it does not require internet access to work.

The app can contain pictures and audio links, and can permit searching and browsing for words.

Apps produced by Dictionary App Builder can be distributed via BlueTooth or microSD cards, or uploaded to an app store.

  • Parser and Writer for Syntax Starter Kit

    Parser and Writer for Syntax

The Parser And Writer for Syntax Starter Kit is affectionately also called PAWS.

As the name of the starter kit indicates, the Parser and Writer for Syntax (PAWS) has two purposes and four outputs:

  • Asheninka Syllable Parser

Asheninka (a Syllable Parser) is a tool to explore using several different algorithms for parsing orthographic words into syllables. It can also insert discretionary hyphens in words. It is designed to work with any language whose orthography is roman-based.

  • Audacity

An audio editor that runs on all major platforms. It is oriented more toward music than phonetics and has only limited analysis tools. However, it can do noise reduction and has some useful editing tools, including the ability to modify individual samples and to change the amplitude envelope.

  • ParaTExt Lexicon Extraction Tool

Utility that extracts the word forms, morphemes and their glosses from the lexicon.xml file generated by the project interlinearizer in ParaTExt and converts them into a Standard Format file that can then be imported into a Fieldworks database.

The glosses can be in more than one writing system, but the receiving Fieldworks project must already be configured for those writing sytems before the import is begun.

If the resulting SFM file is importing data into an Fieldworks database that already has data, then the possibility of having duplicate headwords is very likely.
